Psalm 103:10
Psalm 103:10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.
“What did I do to deserve this?” How many times have you heard that from someone when something negative happens? How many times have you said it yourself? When something negative enters our life we go back through all of our mistakes to see what we could have done. We are putting ourselves under Karma, where everyone gets what they deserve and if something negative happens, then we deserved it because we did something wrong.
But we do not live under Karma, we live under grace. We think that God has this huge chart up in heaven, and when we do something wrong He matches up our sin with the appropriate punishment and sends it down to us. But God doesn’t work that way. This verse explains that He doesn’t deal with us according to our sins and we aren’t repaid after our mistakes. We’re freed from Karma. We live under grace now. God is our loving parent, He is slow to anger and abounding in love toward us. He is the Father of the prodigal who welcomes home the son who wasted his inheritance and throws a celebration because His son returned safe and sound. When we become aware of a mistake or a problem He is kind and forgiving, seeking to teach and restore, not to punish. Jesus paid the price for each sin that we ever committed and each mistake that we ever made. God’s goal is always forgiveness and restoration, not anger and punishment. Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God. If you wonder why something negative came into your life seek Him and allow Him to bring healing and forgiveness to your heart, but don’t think that God is angry with you and you’re only getting what you deserve. Our Parent doesn’t deal with His children that way.
