The newspaper arrives, cable news is starting,
Yet I'm in no particular hurry
To read, to watch, to listen to analysis,
Because nowadays the media majors in worry.
I need first to center myself on the Truth,
Drawing power to face what's going on in life;
Encasing myself in my trust in the Lord
Before getting more awareness of 2016 strife.
There's much going on that is fodder for fear,
Much that can easily overwhelm,
Much that can make me feel depressed
If I have myself, not the Lord, at my helm.
As a child of His, I count on His Word;
I claim the verses about trusting His power.
I recall His promises of continual involvement
In the lives of His children, every single hour.
So I'll learn of the news, having reminded myself
Of God's love, His provision, His peace,
His power, protection and plans for me
Which can cause any news fears to cease.
