Exodus 19:5
What do you think of when you hear the term “treasured possession”? Perhaps it is an antique car sitting in the garage underneath a car cover. Others might think of an art masterpiece hanging on a wall. It might be that you think of a museum artifact, on display under a dome of glass. But the image that God gave me of a treasured possession is a little kid with slightly grubby hands who has found a ladybug. This ladybug is his treasured possession. The ladybug is kept in the palm of his hand, with the other protective hand on top to keep the lady bug from flying away or harm coming to it. The ladybug is held close to his heart. If you ask the child, he might show you the ladybug briefly, through a crack between fingers. This illustration is what comes to mind when I read Exodus 19:5 “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.” And again in 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” The idea that I am God’s ladybug is overwhelmingly sweet. God holds me in the palm of His clean, holy hands close to His heart. He rescued me from the dirt of my sins and covers me with His hand of protection and nothing can get to me except what He allows. I am so grateful to be God’s ladybug.
