Matthew 1:20-23
Good Morning Beloved,
Read and Meditate on Matthew 1:20-23
Reflection after Reading:
Today we are confronted with another example of what one is willing to do for the love of God.
The very first phrase of our scripture reading today tells us Joseph was pondering. What was on his mind? What was he thinking about?
He was thinking about the dilemma he was in. Here was a man of repute, the bible referred to him as an upright man, betrothed to lady he considered pure and virtuous, only to discover she was pregnant.
Please what would someone in his shoes do? Her explanation was: she was pregnant through the Holy Spirit. How could he come to terms with that? How could anyone believe this story?
Not only was he concerned about this amazing development he had to think of the consequences of his imminent decision. If he denied the baby, Mary would he stoned to death, and if he accepted the baby, they would be shunned by people because they were supposed to wait a year before marriage and premarital intercourse was seriously frowned upon. Imagine the shame he would face when he was a man of honour.
It was a very hard choice to make, and he didn't want Mary to be killed.
As always God does not give us more than we can handle. An angel had to appear to Joseph to reassure him that Mary was saying the truth and everything was the will of God, and that was it. That was all Joseph needed to hear. He stopped thinking, stopped deliberating and immediately went ahead with God's plan regardless of the consequences.
My brothers and sisters, how many times do we go ahead with our own will even after The Lord has revealed His plan to us? Are we willing to go the extra mile because of our love for God?.
Remember our lives are no longer ours. We live for God and for others.
Yesterday we saw how four Lepers who were rejected by their own people had to spread good tidings to these same people, today we see how a noble man had to surrender to the will of God. What are you going to do for God in this season of Christmas. A time of giving with joy and all willingness not just because we want to, but because of God.
I pray that as we continue to meditate on The Word this week, The Lord shall open our eyes and heart to His Will and we in turn shall accept it.
Psalm of the week: Psalm 80
Prayer of the week: God of love and mercy, fill our hearts with your love as we prepare to celebrate the birth of your son. Amen
God bless you
