Our pastor is always telling us when we come to church on Wednesdays and Sundays to take notes. A lot of us do ok with taking notes, but the note pad is often left in the car with our bible during the week Also, he or she often is telling us to go back over our notes and the sermon scriptures to -as 2 Timothy 2:15 states-
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (KJV)
Praying, studying, and meditating on God's word will definitely give us the needed power and authority (weaponry) to fight off the wiles of satan in our lives, help us to be ready at all times to bring salvation to the lost, and pray for or with others, etc. It has resonated in my heart as it was explained to me by my pastor that once he is finished praying, studying, and meditating on the word that God had giving him, he would say, "ok God, how do you want me to be of service to you today". The holy spirit would lead and guide him in the direction of preaching and teaching the word of God, counseling with people/couples, doing their jobs, raising their children, etc.
That goes for all of us, Christians! So pull out those bibles and sermon note pads (in your private area of study, of course), and let's get busy praying, studying, and meditating on the messages that God brings to us from our pastors' sermons so that we can be used more and more by God, and make sure that satan is under our feet!!
