Matthew 1:23
“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son, and they will call Him Immanuel”- which means, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23)
There is a story about a boy who promised his fiancee that he was only a call away. If ever she needed his presence, all she had to do was call. One day, in a difficult situation, she did call asking him to come over quickly. He responded, ‘Honey, I will climb the highest mountain to be with you. Swim the deepest river to do so too. I will travel any distance to be with you another day. But sorry, I cannot come today’!!
The name ‘Immanuel’ means, “God with us” (Matthew1:23). It tells us of how God identified with our brokenness and came down to be with us, in the form of Jesus. It tells us that God was willing to live and dwell among us always! Jesus, through His incarnation, spread God’s love and grace extravagantly! The fullness of that love was eventually seen through His sacrifice on Calvary.
Do you feel unloved today? Has loneliness crept over you? Take heart from the fact that ‘Immanuel’ means, “God with us”. Jesus will always be with you and help you through your pain and loneliness. He will never forsake you. Receive His healing and grace now!
God with us, revealed in us,
His name is called, Immanuel.
Praise - Thank you Lord Jesus for living among sinful man. Thank you for identifying with my sin and suffering and for being with me always. Your incarnation shows the magnitude of your love for me. Your continued presence reveals your faithfulness.
In these troubled times, we need His presence more than any present!
