My one year old daughter Faith has just started walking and like many other babies her steps were still unsteady. Nevertheless, she still loves to walk around our house and explore every single thing that she discovers along the way. She was definitely enjoying her newly found freedom in walking until one day she accidentally tripped and fell down. She ended up with bleeding gums and swollen lips. From then on, whenever I put her down to walk she would not let go of my hand. She was not willing to walk anymore on her own unless I hold her hands. The once confident and brave little girl turned into doubtful and fearful one.

"For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

Life's challenges and adversities could have the same effect on us. It will lead us to fear, helplessness and sorrow. Without the guiding hands of God in the midst of hardships, we will certainly get lost and miserable. The good news is that the Lord will never ever abandon us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). He said "For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you" (Isaiah 41:13). He wants us to put all our trust and confidence in Him as we walk along our life's journey.

Nowadays, my daughter's confidence in walking is slowly coming back. She has not only learned how to let go of my hands but her fears as well. Knowing that I will be by her side and stay with her no matter what happens gives her the assurance and security she needs. Her face beams with gladness as she strides toward me while I encourage her by shouting, "Walk with faith! Walk with faith," just like how God wants us to.
