John 3:16
One summer day, I had the exciting adventure of driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle over Mosquito Pass in Colorado from Alma to Leadville. This is a rough dirt road passable only in the summer but with magnificent views of the mountains surrounding Leadville which is situated at an altitude of 10,000 feet. This famous mining town boasts one of the nation's highest airports and golf courses and is sometimes nicknamed Cloud City. As we descended into Leadville, the sight that caught my eye was the cross on top of a high church steeple outlined against the background of snow-covered Mt. Massive. What a dramatic view! It immediately brought to mind the scripture in John 3:14-15 where Jesus said that "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." What a wonderful reminder that because Jesus allowed himself to be lifted up on a cruel cross, die and then rise again, I will spend eternity with Him in heaven. So can all those who believe that Jesus, the only son of God, died on a cross for our sins, rose again and now sits at the right hand of God in heaven, interceding for us.
