You know that feeling when you go on that first date with someone and then you can’t stop calling, texting, or thinking about them? That’s how God feels about you. Yes God feels!

He is not just interested in blessing you or commanding you. He just likes thinking about you and hearing from you. A million times a day He gives you little gifts, like the sun or a singing bird or a wind on your face.

God is very romantic! A few examples are Jesus’ quiet last supper with His apostles. He was one day away from performing the ultimate act of love – giving His life. In preparation, He washed and served them.

God refers to Himself as a “husband” and “bridegroom” numerous times in the Old Testament. The church is described as His “bride” in Isaiah and Revelation. Ezekiel 16 and Song of Solomon make it plain that God considers us to belong to Him physically. He is our Lover and isn’t ashamed to say it plainly.

God loves for us to spend time with Him early in the morning, before sunrise and at quiet moments in the evening. I know that waking up early may not sound very romantic, but think about someone rising to make you breakfast. Or try spending your lunch hour reading the Bible or listening to praise and worship music.

He wants to know you intimately and He wants you to know Him personally. But He already knows everything about me, you may be thinking. Consider happy married couples. Over the years, they get to know each other well, but the happiest ones are always discovering new things about their love. It is the same way with God.

Even if you’ve been baptized for years, God still has a new romantic surprise for you! Why don’t you surprise Him by showing up unexpectedly at His throne early this morning or late tonight? I promise that He will be very happy to see you.
