Wheels up. I feel close to God when I get to fly. There’s nothing like soaring above the clouds, higher than the birds, and looking down on the land far below. When I look out my window, I notice that even the clouds look heavenly almost as if the plane is about to land at Heaven’s gates!

"...they shall mount up with wings like eagles..."

Planes need a tremendous amount of speed for lift off. The momentum enables the plane to climb into the skies and glide at alternating altitudes for hours at a time. Some flights last for 12 hours or more before landing.

How long do you stay “up”? Do you have momentary highs replaced by depressing lows? Do your failures seem to outnumber your victories? Do you crash frequently?
I have some advice to keep you on a steady altitude and one that can even help you climb higher spiritually and in your day to day life.

Remember, that God knows everything. Just like the “invisible” pilot in the cockpit, God has all the controls to direct your life – speed, height, temperature and pressure. If you really believe in Him and the Bible, then you will see how He directed other people through terrible circumstances.

The turbulence in your life – job loss, deaths, betrayals, poverty, loneliness – may seem as if it will never end but IT WILL! Just as a plane lands at the airport, sometimes after traveling over oceans and mountains all night, so will you.

Many others have been through terrible events – just surf the internet for “tragedies” and count how many stories are listed. Everyone on the earth is guaranteed at least one catastrophe and thousands of “unexpected” mini-disasters.

Focusing on your miseries will never make them go away. The good news is there is an “up” side to every low. You may be sick, poor, alone, afraid, or friendless, but none of these situations is beyond the reach of God. He has healed and restored billions before you who dared to put Him in charge of their life and simply enjoyed the ride.

So don’t waste any more time sobbing and anxious over what else might go wrong. Tell God that you trust Him as the pilot of your life and prove it by looking for that silver lining that you can only see when you’re soaring above the clouds.
