Like John 3:16, many have heard the words of Psalm 23. Unfortunately they are associated with funerals. The phrase “lie down in green pastures” seems to be the focus. Yet there is so much more contained in this wonderful hymn from David. This is about the loving provision of our God and our relationship to him. Certainly he provides the food and water of the green pastures and still waters but the most important fulfillment he provides is the restoration of our souls. Because Christ died on the cross and rose again, we are assured as we trust in him and depend on him, we too with have restoration in resurrection to be with God forever in glory. All things considered, that is all I really need.
