There is a price to every single thing in life. From school to salvation, someone paid for you to enjoy your existence. Our society doesn't like certain investments, such as salvation, so we invent things to avoid the cost and accountability which Jesus' death demands.

I prayed that God would relieve the pain I had...

Dr Francis Crick made a variant of the comment decades ago in a lucid moment that "I can't believe on Christ. It requires of me to be accountable. I'm having too much fun sinning!"

People completely miss our focus. And they forget that life isn't one of constant abrogation of God's law. To completely pursue the avaricious level of self prurience is so destructive that people who do most often die in their twenties.

God's call to holiness isn't to spank us for our desires. It's to present to each of us, a plane of living which brings one thing none of our pursuits on earth can. Peace.

Standing outside a pump house in the jungles off the Ucayali River, I spoke God's word into my soul. Rather than the misery of chasing a god of pleasure, which gave me nothing but sleepless misery, I found the enervation which only the cleansing wash of God's word can do to mind and body. As I stood there in the morning sun, I prayed that God would relieve the pain I had of anger and rebellion to replace it with joy and peace. Neither of which Dr Crick ever professed to have. He was so angry at Christianity that he resigned his fellowship at Churchill College when they proposed to build a chapel.

Don't be anxious about anything, but ask God for all you need. Peace, for one.
