Winds howled, rain slashed, windows rattled. Were those nails pulling out of the shingles on our roof? We hunkered down in our ‘safe’ place to ride out the storm several years ago. It was unlike anything we had ever experienced.
Yet, it was nothing compared to super storm Sandy that ripped through the Northeast with no regard to humble abode or majestic mansion. A war between three storms had left the landscape shredded.
Unless we’ve personally experienced such devastation, we can never fully imagine what such loss feels like...despair, hopelessness, not knowing where to turn or what to do next. But to dwell in that despair invites further ruin…to one’s emotions and spirit.
Words of gratitude to God fell from trembling lips for the safekeeping of loved ones; clinging to where there is life, there is hope.
As first responders came with hammers, saws, and power tools, organizations like Samaritans Purse also brought the tool of the Spirit, the Bible to meet that deeper healing of the heart along with muscle, sweat and tears.
In Isaiah 61: 1, 2 & 3, NKJV we read, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me…to comfort all who mourn…to give them beauty for ashes…the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.”
No matter what storm comes our way, let’s abide in Christ, the only safe place to be. Selah
