Every morning when I wake up, there's a different sky! There may be clouds, but some dark mornings, the stars are twinkling through and though I've only been awake a few minutes before ascending into our family "bus", the very first thing I do is to thank God for breath and strength to drive to work! Just a few years ago, it wasn't that way!

I'd been falling asleep at the wheel for seconds at a time on the way home from my office!

I'd been falling asleep at the wheel for seconds at a time on the way home from my office, not realizing that over the two previous years, my lungs had been gradually choked by blood clots! My wife finally accompanied me to our doctor's office, and within ten minutes of the meeting, he'd told me to get to the hospital as fast as we practically could! I had just hours to live unless I got emergency treatment!

According to him, I had more than 100 clots in the blood vessels crisscrossing my lungs which is why I had been falling asleep for months while driving. To this day it scares me how close I had been to dying either in an accident or even at the supper table! With rest, blood thinners, and finally walks around the heart level of the hospital, I regained my health and my energy. I had slept the first two days of my medical "internment"! God gave me back my life and my health over the next eighteen months and with patterns of changed diet and exercise, I saw life very differently, as I do to this day!

Promises in the Bible aren't there for entertainment! Each is vital to our life, both physical and spiritual and from salvation to saving food, we depend on God for every breath we take! Thanking God is not a ritual, it's a living moment of recognition!

Lord, help us all to realize that the very things we take for granted, lengthen our life one more minute, so that we can return our gratitude in our daily prayers!
