Philippians 2:10,11
I believe in Jesus. He's my personal Savior, and I've been a Christian for many years. I'm familiar with the Bible, having read it for all those years as well. But once in a while there's a verse or a phrase that jumps off the page, and grabs me by the lapels. Philippians 2:10,11 is like that. It tells us that every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Every knee. Every tongue.
Pagans constantly misuse and abuse that name in ignorance. But even Christians can get a little sloppy about the name of Jesus. I hear innocuous jokes using Jesus name, and I hear people say that someone had a "come to Jesus" meeting with their boss, etc. We should know better.
When I read that verse, which is actually a quote back to the Old Testament, it reminds me of how much we should respect and hold high the name of Jesus. It reminds me of how sloppy I--we--can get in our Christian walk.
Some awesome day, maybe not far away, every knee will bow before Jesus. When we hold the name of Jesus lightly, we disrespect the One to whom we all owe things. Let's renew and elevate our relationship to Him with a new reverence for the name which is above all names.
