Exodus 14:1-4
Have you ever felt like going back to something you prayed for God to free you from? Maybe you were in a bad relationship or desperately wanted a new job. But then when you out of the relationship or got the new job, after a while, you found yourself wishing you could just go back? At least there you were comfortable, you knew what to expect right?
When the Israelites fled Egypt they thought about going back many times. Bread fell from the heavens, free food was given to them, and they grew tired of eating it and complained to Moses about their conditions. They were afraid that Pharaoh's armies would surely capture them at any point and so it might be best to just go back to Egypt.
In this scripture, God hardened the heart of Pharaoh so that he would go after the Israelites. That sounds a little harsh but it was for His purpose. And that purpose was to show the Egyptians and, I believe, the Israelites as well, His true glory. By saving the Israelites God would be glorified, again, and who could deny His glory, again?
What are you going through right now that may be an opportunity to allow you to glorify God? Will you smile through your trial and be steadfast in Christ and glorify Him or will you run back to your comfort zone? It's important to remember, you may have to go through some trials to get where you want to be. And the Bible says that if it's God's will, He will see you through, His words will not return unfulfilled...from glory to glory.
