God loves music. So what music does He like to listen to? The obvious response would be Christian music that praises Him and talks of His great wonders.

"Sing to God, sing in praise of His name, extol him who rides on the clouds, rejoice before Him."

The book of Genesis refers to the “sound” of His voice. His voice is also compared to “rushing waters” (Ezekiel 43:2, Rev 1:15) and “thunder” (Job 37: 2-5). Revelation declares that praise music will never cease on the New Earth. God has enabled humanity to create all kinds of instruments and translate songs that are hundreds of years old.

The diversity of music we can use to worship God is truly remarkable. The Psalms have been remade with new musical arrangements. Hymns reflect the majesty of God, the somber reflection on our own sinful nature, and expectant hope of life after death. Christian hip hop personalizes radical conversions with punchy beats.

Harp instrumentals immediately transport us to heaven’s throne. Gospel trills with the emotional exultation of being a privileged, personal friend of the Creator. Choral worship mimics ethereal singing of the heavenly angels.

Music changes our mood and reflects the mood of the composer. Note the sounds of nature. The soothing rhythm of oceans and rivers, the uplifting twitters of birds, the sonorous, drawn-out howls of wolves that speak of eternity. Gentle breezes rustling treetops makes us stop and listen. Even traffic noise has a rhythm to it!

Sometimes we don’t have the words to talk to God about His goodness or our wants and needs. But when you don’t know what to say, say it with a song!
