Are we ‘tuned in’ to hearing God’s quiet voice by silencing conflicting thoughts?
Does a persistent, nudging impression or repeated, confirming Scripture replay from various sources? God’s voice may thunder at times to get our attention. But mostly He speaks through His Word in a still, small voice.
That voice requires us to be quiet, thoughtful, thankful and desirous of knowing Him better. I Kings 19: 11 tells us how the Lord passed by Elijah on the mountain sending a strong wind tearing into the mountains and breaking rocks. Next came an earthquake and then a fire. But the Lord wasn’t in any of these...until “a still small voice.”
Part of a personal journal entry confirms this.
“Today we awoke to the beauty of newly fallen snow…a silent blanket of white accompanied by the music of the wind chimes. I sit in the sun room area of our great room with an eye toward the laughing fire winking at me…all blessings from my heavenly Father.”
Thanksgiving from a trusting heart resting in Him overflowed to the Giver of every good and perfect gift as I read in “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young, “When you thank Me for the many pleasures I provide, you affirm that I am God, from whom all blessings flow.”
I basked in His presence and His still, small voice of confirmation. Selah
