Colossians 3:1-17
The Biggest Loser is a reality show that challenges contestants who are overweight and obese to lose the most weight. The number one New Year’s resolution is to lose weight. People want to lose weight to fit into a special outfit. After a pregnancy a woman wants to lose weight. Some people with the ‘middle age spread’ want to lose weight. People are cyber-bullied about their weight and shamed to lose weight. There are many reasons people are looking for ways to lose weight.
There is another kind of weight that affects the whole body and that is the weight of sin. The great news is that you can lose the weight of sin easily by ‘taking off the old self’. Take off the extra pounds of past sin that may be compounded with guilt, shame, pain, unforgiveness, worry, sexual immorality, impurity, evil desire, greed, idolatry, anger, wrath, malice, slander, profanity and lying, which can lead to spiritual and physical weight gain as well as other health problems.
Colossians 3:1-17 exhorts you to ‘put on the new self’ - compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, patience and most importantly put on love - which feasts on the Word of God (Matthew 4:4).
The next time you are tempted to eat something sugary, fatty, and loaded with calories, instead pick up a Bible and feed on the Word of God. Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalms 34:8), and His Word is sweeter than honey (Psalms 119:103) and health and life (Proverbs 4:22)! Love God, love others and love yourself (Matthew 22:37-39)! With a healthy diet of the Word, you can lose weight easily.
Lord, help me feed my faith with the Word of God and lose all the weight of the world!
