Numbers 4:7 And upon the table of shewbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and covers to cover withal: and the continual bread shall be thereon:
This scripture is a picture of the table prepared for the daily bread, a place to be honored, where the bread from God was to be placed continually. This pointed to the bread of life, our living bread the Lord Jesus, our daily bread.
The table holds a significant place in my life, as a very young child it was my refuge, a hiding place, where beneath the table with the long overhanging table cloth I was safe from the rage of a drunken mother, as well as a place where I heard the conversation of a group of my father’s friend’s say that my Dad was “a man of his word”, and what he said was true and could be counted on. On hearing those words my heart filled with pride for him. After I was born again my kitchen table was the place where I studied the precious word of God, prayed and wept at the wonderful truths I discovered there, and where neighbors, family and friends gathered to study and pray.
My family and friends continue to come to share meals, and fellowship, where events of the day are shared, prayers of present concerns and plans are brought before the Lord. Our time at the table is special, it is prepared with the intent for the Lord to meet with us.
