I Chronicles 16:26
Some years back I had an antique car, a Ford Galaxie (yes, Ford spelled it that way). I decided to joined a club of people with a like interest, and went to a few of the club meetings.
It was kind of amazing: The met on Sunday morning, and the thing that bonded them together was this certain make of automobile. A lot of attention was doted on it, and no amount of money to make it better was spared. They held a fierce loyalty to it. They talked about it and sang it praises.
There was a fellowship among the members of the club, and they would from time to time help each other out. But the thing that was the focal point was the car.
It didn't take long for me to realize that for many of these folks, these meetings were a sort of church, and the deity was this car . The Galaxie god was a substitute for the God of the Universe.
It's easy to slip into idolatry. I think we all do from time to time. It has to do with not giving God the proper place in our lives. Maybe it's a car, or a habit, or a bigger house. Let's remember to give God his proper place in our lives.
By the way, I sold the car.
