Do we realize how insidious sin can softly enter our life?
It doesn't make blaring announcements
Or cause us at first any strife.
It has a certain progression
Of which we're not even aware,
As it slowly becomes status quo,
With no signs that warn us "beware".
No wonder in the very first psalm,
God's Word warns against sin's progression:
First we walk, then stand, then sit
As our life becomes sin's own possession.
Like Adam and Eve in the garden,
We walk by the snares of sin,
Still able to go away,
For the desire's just begun to begin.
But then, as they did, we stand,
Stopping in contemplation,
Allowing ourself to consider
How that sin could bring us elation.
Finally we're ready to sit,
Being comfortable in sin's domain,
Scoffing at any warnings
That from this sin we should refrain.
Only by heeding God's word
Can this progression become reversed,
When we walk, stand, then sit in His counsel,
Finally freed from being accursed.
We must be aware of the progression we take
As we walk the path of our existence,
Keeping firmly planted in His word,
To triumph over sin's persistence.

"How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields it's fruit in its season, and it's leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers." Psalm 1:1-3
