Romans 8: 35-39
I once read an article that smiling releases endorphins (natural pain relievers) and serotonin (feel good brain chemical) in the brain which make a person feel happy. The premise further states that one cannot smile and think negative thoughts at the same time. The study suggested that it works even better if one smiled and exposed some teeth. So, I set out to prove it. And guess what? It worked. Every time I felt down, I would smile. But there was one issue. I felt awkward walking around smiling (with teeth exposed), around people.
I would like to introduce you to another “lifter-up” of spirits that I have discovered. It is found in the answer to the question posed in Romans 8: 35: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Verses 37-39 assure us that nothing shall separate us from the love of God and that we are more than conquerors of all of life’s circumstances through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Meditating on that precious promise from God that nothing shall separate us from His love, is an excellent way to put a genuine smile on our faces, and perpetually lift our spirits.
